How Does a Front Load Washer Work?

The front load washer has a front door used for loading laundry, often with a glass window. This door is sealed with a gasket so that no leakage can occur.

Inside the machine, the outer tub and the inner basket are mounted in a horizontal fashion. The cylinder moves back and forth. This movement is created by the main motor which is connected to it by a pulley wheel.

Front loader washers tend to be more expensive than top loader washer.

This type of washer requires special types of detergents to be used. The lifting action creates a lot of suds. Moreover specialized detergents release different chemicals as the temperature of the water is gradually raised for the most effective cleaning. These detergents are generally more expensive, but only small amount is needed for each wash.

Research has shown that the front loader washer causes less strain on the clothes and cleans them more thoroughly.

This type of machine is also more energy efficient and consumes less water than top loader models.

The front loader washer has a pair of bellows near the door to prevent small items of clothing to fall down and clog the machine. These bellows need to be kept clean. For this, you may need to operate an empty cycle with a strong bleaching solution once a month.

One problem of this type of machine is that you will have to stoop to reach the door. To overcome this, some models come with storage drawers at the bottom which raises the level of the door.
